One thing that has always bothered me about Christmas is the fact that it's become more about consuming all the brand new things that advertisers are trying so desperately to convince us that we need. So that's why I'd much rather support a handmade Christmas where presents come from the hardworking independent business owners (as well as vintage items).

So this year I'm going to put together some neat gift guides all focusing on Independent Business Owners that sell handmade or vintage items. HAIR PINNING

Lately I've been obsessing with hairpins. It's such a simple way to put up my hair something other than a ponytail. The trick is trying to hide the pins (still trying to figure that out without being able to see what I'm doing :D). To help with the blending process I picked up some blonde colored bobby pins (which were surprisingly hard to find!).

What's your go to hair style when you're down on time but still want to look cute?

Over the weekend I caught up on some homework, watched movies, got my first gel manicure, and did a little online Christmas shopping (this year I'm aiming to be completely done by the first week of December). I watched a film called Sunshine Cleaning and while it was heartbreakingly sad, it depicted a kind of reality that many families face. The characters faced tragedies yet they still were a family and stuck it out together. Even though most of the time I choose to walk my own path, I feel so blessed to come from where I come from and to have the family I have. Moments like these keep things into perspective.

APPLE CIDER FLOAT

My new treat of the season is an Apple Cider Float. Add some vanilla bean ice cream and some apple cider together in a cup and you're good to go! If you need a dash of caramel too that always helps : )

WASHINGTON WEEKEND

This past weekend included road trips, Georgetown cupcakes, shopping, photos, red vintage jackets, gingerbread lattes, pancakes and Munich. Also, I never thought I'd become one of those people who only post iPhone pics, but my Lightroom trial just ran out (purchasing the actual program this week) and my Photoshop is being glitchy so this will have to do for now.

Shades of Monet Guest Post

The other day I had the honor of guest posting at Marisa's blog Shades of Monet.

LANGHORNE COFFEE HOUSE

We've been waiting all semester to do our ritual and we finally got around to it! Ellen (one of my closest friends and also my roommate) and I were able to sneak away on Friday morning to grab a bit to eat at our favorite coffee shop. Two thermoses of coffee and a plate of two eggs, hash-browns and some toast all for $4.12! You can see why we are smiling so big : )

Today I'm heading off to Washington with my roommate Ellen! Her sister lives there as a teacher and has offered us the weekend away. SO excited just to get off campus and have a break. Here's to a weekend away from life!
