Shabbat Dinner

Friday, April 29, 2011

I thought that since it being Friday and all I'll share with you what my Friday night's look like now that I'm living in Israel. Every Friday on campus we have Shabbat dinner. Shabbat is a weekly observance holiday for the Jewish people (you can read more about it here).

About a week ago we got some fresh flowers which was such a treat! Flowers are pretty hard to come by in this land and cost a pretty penny. It's much easier to find rocks and dirt. But to celebrate the beginning of Spring I took some pictures.
This is the challah bread and the candles.
The sun was just stunning that day. I love that when Shabbat comes around (from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown) everything is closed and it's genuinely time you spend at home with your family and friends. It's completely refreshing since I come from a culture that sucks every minute out of you (Hello, America!).

It took me a little while to make the switch from Sunday being the holy day to Friday night to Saturday night being the holy day, but now that I have it down it feels totally natural and I look forward to it! Here in Israel all the shops and public transportation clears out around 2pm. It will certainly take some getting used to when I come back to the States and see everything open on Friday evenings!

Can You BELIEVE It?!

Kate and William are married! Luckily for me the wedding festivities started around 11am instead of 4am like it was back in the States. I normally never watch these type of things but for some reason I had to this time. It was a gorgeous wedding and the Queen was adorable!
So what about you? Were you up at the crack for dawn to catch it all? And what did you think of her gown? I thought she looked stunningly beautiful but its not something I would have picked. It was funny to read everyones reactions on twitter the whole time : ) It's not often something this historical happens!

Style Files: Weeds For Flowers

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Skirt: H&M, Cardigan:Borrowed from my roommate, Bag:Fossil, Thrifted at Salvation Army, Shoes: Target, Tank: Target
When I get home one of the first things I'm going to do is sell half of my wardrobe. I'm getting antsy and need to change things up completely. A huge life change just happened in my life and I feel the need to complete the change by riding myself of a lot of clothing that I just don't feel is "me" anymore.

These photos were taken in a field near my school.  The weeds (which I like to call wildflowers) were beautiful. You can see the pictures I took of Annie here.

Have a great Wednesday!

Style Files: Over The Weekend!

Monday, April 25, 2011

This past week has been absolutely insane.  Passover and Easter is one of the most popular times to be in Jerusalem and I could definitely tell! Over 100,000 tourists flooded the city and the whole week was focused on God.

This is the outfit I wore for Easter. We went to the sunrise service at the Garden Tomb at 6:30. It was awesome! I was even interviewed for CBN news which was pretty crazy. I never get picked for stuff like that! Then I waited for another service at Christ's Church later on in the morning.  The rest of the day was studying for my final (which I have today) and sitting out in the sun.
Then around 4pm we did an Easter Egg hunt on campus :D Yes, we are all in our 20s or orlder and still doing egg hunts! Of course! What else would we do on Easter? Then after dinner there was a choire from the Faroe Islands at a nearby church and a group of us went to go have a listen.  They were pretty good but I was exhausted from having to wake up at 4am that morning. And now I want to visit the Faroe Islands. They look stunning!

What did you do for Easter? Score any chocolate candy from the Easter Bunny?

What Is Love?

Saturday, April 23, 2011

These photos from Jesse Holland (featured on Style Me Pretty) touched my heart in some way. Our generation has lost the meaning of love. Love is not just a feeing, but also a decision and a tough commitment. But we're not taught that anymore and it's to our loss.

Because we don't know the true meaning of love, we suffer more pain than ever before. Divorce rates and hurting families are now more than ever. This photo shoot reminded me to stick it out and wait for someone who holds the same values that I know and knows what true love looks like.
I really try to keep this blog just to fashion but it's inevitable that I'll share something that really made me think.

What is your take on love? How do you perceive marriage?  Please remember to respect others and be kind in the comments when responding. Just take a moment to think about it.
