Daily Life: At The Kinneret

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

This past weekend we went on a four day field study to the Kinneret (The Sea of Galilee). The weather was beautiful and I don't think I could ever tire of a sandy beach and breaking water. You can see more of my weekend here.

A Challenge

I've started to realize that my own personal fashion is always going to evolve. I thought that one day I would have perfected my own personal style and then voila! I'd have "me". But honestly it doesn't work that way.  There are still a lot of days when I just wear jeans and t-shirts and some not so cute outfits, but these ladies give us younger ladies permission to be who you are no matter what age.

Daily Life: Buns and Bowls

Sunday, March 27, 2011

These days I rarely do my hair. Its so thick and pretty hard to make it stay up. But the other day I was feeling adventurous.  Also does anyone know any good at-home hair moisturizing methods or creams I could make? My hair needs some serious therapy after baking in the sun the past couple of weekends.

Style Files: The Bombing

Friday, March 25, 2011

Scarf: borrowed, Cardigan: old navy, Skirt: american apparel, Bag: fossil (thrifted), Tank: Target
Hey guys! So sorry for the absence on the blog this past week.  My family come to Israel for a tour and I was able to hang out with them for the week. I'm also currently in the Kinneret for a couple of days, so this post is going to be quick since I have to pay for internet.

Also you have have heard about the bombing in Israel this past Wednesday. One women died while about 40 others were critically injured (you can read more about it here). I just wanted to let you know that everything is okay and good here on campus.  But please pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Spring Baby!

Monday, March 21, 2011

Someday I hope to be able to afford all this stuff. I'm going to be one hard working woman to afford this habit! Here's to a Spring 2011 Wish List. If I look at it much longer I might cry. No really, I'll be okay :)
Trends I'm loving:
Lace collared tops, longer skirts
  1. Chambray Button Skirt $50 - My love for chambray has now extended into skirts.  I'm mostly excited about the length of this skirt! It's much more modest than what stores usually sell. The buttons are the finishing touch. Love.
  2. Lattice Sundress $35 - This sundress has everything perfect about it.  I really like the unique double strap and the stunning color.
  3. Modcloth White Tank $33 - I really love the collar detail on this tank top. It adds something special without having to add accessories.  Only add a cute cardigan and rolled up shorts!
  4. Ornament Making Shirt $29 - I wish I had snatched up this top while it was still in stock. Totally love the denim was, cinched waist, and lace detail on the collar.
  5. White Malai Dress $90 - This dress is definitely more on the wish side than the list side, but it's a beauty, isn't it?
Footwear Trends I'm Loving:
Wedge Sandals
This summer I am totally crushing on wedge sandals. I also realized that I don't own a pair of yellow flats! Don't worry, I've already repented : )
  1. Ecote Sandal $39 - These are most like the sandals that are going to work their way into my wardrobe this summer. They're the most affordable :D
  2. Mustard Suede Flats $25 - These beauties are from Target. Where have they been my whole life?
  3. Madewell Wedges $148 - These seaside wedges are just perfection. I love their thick chunky heel at just the right height.  Perfect for every day walking and activity.
  4. These Top Shop wedges are beautiful but cost a pretty penny - $100!
Trends I'm Loving:
Paper bag skirts, stripes and polka dots (like always),
Longer skirts
  1. BB Dakota Olive Green Skirt $61 - I'm inspired to make this.
  2. Mourning Hour Denim Dress $22 (on sale, now sold out) - I honestly thought I would never go back to denim tops or dresses, but I really like the pleats and bow on this one! It actually looks pretty lady-like : )
  3. Short Sleeve Pussybow Top $45 - Owning a bow-tied top has been on every season-list I've made, yet I haven't gotten one yet.  Maybe this is the year.
  4. Full Lace Skirt $50 - This is another purchase I should have made before it sold out.  This lace skirt is perfect for the summer and the length is to die for! I love modest skirts!
  5. Tailored Beige Skirt $54 - Again, I love the length on this skirt and I also adore the color. Camel colored clothing really came back this fall and winter and I'm looking to carry the trend over into summer.
  6. Polka Dot Top $28 - I only have one polka dot blouse in my wardrobe. Heresy!
  7. Striped Arm Tank $36 - I definitely want to put this tank into my wardrobe.  How could I not?
And last but not least is this beautiful paper bag skirt ($70) from Top Shop. I just forgot to include it in one of the collages :D Whoops!

So what's on your wish-list for Spring and Summer?  Any must haves?

Style Files: The 6th Grade

You may have thought I gave up my collar-poppin' ways with the 6th grade, but I'm still rolling with in. Or maybe I'm just a sloppy dresser. Or maybe I had just taken off my camera strap and this is how I always look when I take people's pictures. Oh wonderful. : )

Blouse: Gap, Cardigan: Old Navy, Skirt:Mod Cloth, Belt:Grandma's,
Bag:Fossil, thrifted, Shoes:TOMs, Tights:Target, Necklace:Etsy
This past weekend I was able to visit my family who are on a tour in Israel.  I met up with them at the Dead Sea and went along while they hiked Masada and En Gedi and swam in the Dead Sea.  Good times!

Last night was Purim and BOY was it a blast.  Some classmates and I went to a synagogue to hear the reading of the Megillat Esther and it was so much fun seeing everyone up in costume.  The kids were adorable! Afterwards we headed to Ben Yehuda Street where the real party was at.

Did you do anything for Purim?

How Life Was & How It Is

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I usually don't participate in these types of things for various reasons, but the earthquake in Japan really got to me. It showed me how fragile life really is, and how much we take for granted...like the sand holding back the sea. Here's something in case you forgot what life is like right now.

Guest Post: Shenneth of Shen Dove Style

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Hey guys, another guest post for you! I hope you're enjoying them and discovering a few new blog along the way as well : ) Shenneth of Shen Dove Style is a lovely gal living in the DC area who always dresses like a lady. I love how she always combines modesty with fashion. She inspires me!
Hello! My name is Shen Dove and I blog about my personal style and inspiration over at Shen Dove Style. Chaucee asked me to do a guest post while she is studying abroad and I was honored that she asked me to do a post and happy to oblige! As a nod to the ‘stripes’ in the title of Chaucee's fabulous blog, Streets and Stripes, I decided to wear a striped H&M boat-necked collar shirt that has become a staple for me this winter.  I always feel a bit Parisian when I wear this shirt and imagine myself sipping a coffee in a cafĂ© with a scarf wrapped around my neck and wearing some large, stylish sunglasses.  A girl can dream right?

A striped shirt is a surprisingly versatile and a classic item that can be worn season after season.  A basic striped shirt can easily be worn with florals and other bold prints as well as with solid colors.
Shirt: H&M; Skirt: Mod Cloth; Shoes: Nine West; Black Clutch: gift
Stripes can take you from dressier occasions like a dinner and drinks with friends to tasks that call for casual attire like running errands on a Saturday morning.

Here are a few recent remixes of my striped shirt:
So how do you wear your stripes?

Oliver Is Back + Happy One Year!

Monday, March 14, 2011

Yesterday I got to see my family! They're in Israel for a tour and I met up with them at the airport. It was fun to welcome them here : ) I had to come back to school last night but it was a good couple of hours seeing each other. I look forward to this weekend when we'll be together again!

This weekend they're going to the Dead Sea and hiking Masada. That means I'll be hiking Masada for the third time. I'm going to start stretching now if you don't mind. That thing is a BEAST!
These were the first photos I took when I got my camera (Oliver) fixed. My parents paid for the fix for my 21st birthday which is coming up the end of this month! I still haven't been able to retrieve those street style pics I took that were lost when my card died, but I'm just glad to have Oliver back in my hands again.
However, I do have something to admit. While Oliver was in the shop I did some camera (lust) shopping. Is that considered cheating? I felt kind of bad since, you know, he was in the shop getting fixed for all the good he does for me. Then I bought him some ice cream to call it peace but he wouldn't eat it! So I had to. The things I do for this relationship!
Skirt: Francesca's, Boots & Tank & Tights:Target, Cardigan:Gap (Borrowed)
I actually got around to writing up a FAQ post. I'm pretty proud of myself : )

Also I just realized that today exactly marks one year for Streets and Stripes. I'm so glad I thought to check today! So thanks everyone for being my friend and reading & commenting : ) Now come to Jerusalem and we can celebrate!

Ps For those who are reading in Google Reader or Blog Lovin', hop on over to the new site. I have a new design! And yes, this outfit made the header :D

Loved Looks

Friday, March 11, 2011

The last Loved Looks was over a month ago so I thought I'd share some of my recent inspiration. These girls have got it going on. Below you can see the links and my comments on the outfits.
  1. This is a great take on the classic trench + adorable snow boots.  Make sure to check out the rest of the post to see her lustworthy boots!
  2. Every time Kyrstal wears her black platform pumps I scavenge the internet to find a pair like time. Too bad Forever 21 isn't sell them any more.
  3. Sometimes black is all you need. I love the simplicity of the outfit and the way it makes her hair pop in color.
  4. Natalie always looks amazing. That skirt is beautiful!
  5. The colors and tones of Kendi's outfit are pure warmth. I love the cowl she is wearing as well.
  6. Veronika is one girl who knows how to wear vintage. She looks stunning in this post. Click for the rest of the pictures!

Style Love: H&M Maroon Cardigan

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Hey guys! Still working on the camera issue this week.  It's getting fixed as we speak and I'll hopefully have it back soon!  Until then here is something in my closet that I couldn't live without...
This maroon cardigan was one of the best purchase I've ever made. It's definitely a favorite of mine and it goes with everything I wear. But it recently got a hole in the arm and I still have yet to stitch it back together. I have so many holes and buttons to repair...I should get started on them before heading off to Israel!

So tell me...what is one piece of clothing you couldn't live without?

More Adventure

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Whenever I watch small films or videos that have the same ideals and ideas in them as the ones below, it makes me think more about my life and who I am as a person and more importantly what I am doing with my life.  Do I have adventure? Do I just lay on the floor of airports without caring about what other people think? Do I have the guts to travel across Europe staying with people I've never met before?

For some reason this little video and the story of a man, a film canister, and a french girl really made something click.

First watch this video.

And then see how they met.

You can read more about this story here.

Street Style Inspiration + Happy Ash Wednesday!

Last week my memory card died (erasing all my photos) and then my camera broke. Definitely not my lucky week. But I still have been posting regular street style pictures over at Field Book. Thanks for bearing with me this week as my camera gets fixed : ) I hope to have this blog back to regular outfit posts by next week!

Ps - Happy Ash Wednesday! Today marks the beginning of Lent.  What are you giving up for Lent?  I'm thinking about giving up Nutella.  That's going to be hard.
